Constructed wetlands operated as bioelectrochemical systems for the removal of organic micropollutants

چکیده

The removal of organic micropollutants (OMPs) has been investigated in constructed wetlands (CWs) operated as bioelectrochemical systems (BES). operation CWs BES (CW-BES), either the form microbial fuel cells (MFC) or electrolysis (MEC), only recent years. presented experiment used CW meso-scale applying a realistic horizontal flow regime and continuous feeding real urban wastewater spiked with four OMPs (pharmaceuticals), namely carbamazepine (CBZ), diclofenac (DCF), ibuprofen (IBU) naproxen (NPX). study evaluated efficiency conventional (CW-control) well closed-circuit MFCs (CW-MFCs) MECs (CW-MECs). Although few positive trends were identified for CW-BES compared to CW-control (higher average CBZ, DCF NPX by 10–17% CW-MEC 5% CW-MFC), these proved be not statistically significantly different. Mesoscale experiments could thus confirm earlier effects found under strictly controlled laboratory conditions synthetic wastewaters.

Removal processes for arsenic in constructed wetlands.

Arsenic pollution in aquatic environments is a worldwide concern due to its toxicity and chronic effects on human health. This concern has generated increasing interest in the use of different treatment technologies to remove arsenic from contaminated water. Constructed wetlands are a cost-effective natural system successfully used for removing various pollutants, and they have shown capability...

Pollutants Transformation and Removal within Constructed Wetlands Hybrid Systems

In Taiwan, constructed wetlands have received tremendous interests for water quality enhancement due to insufficient sewage treatment and groundwater deterioration. The main objectives of this study were to investigate pollutants removal mechanisms and efficiency within the field-scale natural purification hybrid systems. The systems included an oxidation pond, two serial surface flow wetlands ...

Enhanced nitrogen removal in constructed wetlands: effects

Four horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands (HSFCWs), named HSFCW1 (three-stage, without step-feeding), HSFCW2 (three-stage, with step-feeding), HSFCW3 (five-stage, without step-feeding) and HSFCW4 (five-stage, with step-feeding) were designed to investigate the effects of dissolved oxygen (DO) and step-feeding on nitrogen removal. High removal of 90.9% COD, 99.1% ammonium nitrogen and...

Removal Mechanisms in Constructed Wastewater Wetlands

The use of constructed wetlands is a relatively new technology but the system is gaining popularity due to its low tech system for treating wastewater (DeBusk, 1999b).Constructed wetlands have found to be effective in treating domestic wastewater where municipalities are concerned with reducing suspended solids, organic matter, phosphorus, nitrogen, and pathogens. Constructed wetlands mimic nat...

Influence of chlorothalonil on the removal of organic matter in horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands.

This study investigates the effects of chlorothalonil (CLT) on chemical oxygen demand (COD) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in pilot-scale horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands (HSSFCW) planted with Phragmites australis. Physicochemical parameters of influent and effluent water samples, microbial population counting methods and statistical analysis were used to evaluate the influen...
